Javier Arau has written and arranged music for everything from 18-piece jazz orchestra to jazz duos and trios, and he leads working ensembles of all sizes for performances in many venues. His programs for clubs, festivals, and concert venues include much of his new music along with original arrangements of jazz classics by Ellington, Coltrane, Mingus, and Shorter, among others. Arau is a versatile saxophonist, with influences ranging from Ben Webster to Ivo Perelman. He strikes a balance between lyricism, creativity, technical dexterity, and joyful abandon. Arau also knows how to captivate an audience and make it feel more than welcome. Arau's ensemble members are all first-rate musicians who play with artistry, intelligence, soul, and purpose.
