Letter to Buyers
My pieces are available to you, if you are interested in buying new music for your jazz band or concert band. I also have other pieces available for a variety of ensembles and styles. Please feel free to inquire about any piece on my composition list. In addition, if you are interested in commissioning a new work for your ensemble, please consider contacting me.
Included below is a list of available pieces and a brief description of each. If you are interested in purchasing a copy of any of these pieces for your jazz band, please let me know. I am pricing each set of score and parts at $80.00.
“Natural Selection”

Down Beat winner, 2000. Moves from minimalist jazz through some funk hip-hop. Solos for trombone and alto sax. Some challenging reading and ensemble playing.
“Killer Joe” (arr.)

Down Beat winner, 2000. Benny Golson says that this version “takes Killer Joe around the world.” Afro-Cuban 12/8, with a completely reharmonized phrygian sound to it. Tenor sax feature with trumpet and percussion solos. A rhythmic challenge.
“Southland”

Down Beat winner, 1997. Modal tenor sax and flugelhorn (opt. guitar) feature that is based on a pedal point. Fast swing, with a crazy sax soli in the middle.
“Anthem”

Tenor sax feature that alternates between a bluesy ballad and some fast but subdued swing. Also features guitar.
“Chrysalis”

3/4 ballad featuring piano. Interesting harmonies.
“India” (arr.)

Features Coltrane’s “India” solo rearranged for sax section (2 sopranos, 3 tenors). Also features tenor sax and sitar (optional).
“Garden of Silk”

Ellingtonish ballad for alto sax.
“Gypsy Children”

5/4 medium-fast swing. Features trumpet and soprano sax. Folk-like melody and a metric modulation to fast 4/4.
“Straight, No Chaser” (arr.)

Irreverent treatment of Monk’s classic. Nearly everything but a literal statement of the melody. Good solo vehicle for several players (solos suggested for piano, alto sax, bass, and drums). Fast swing.
